The year was 2009. Octomom was considered important news, "Poker Face" by Lady GaGa was st-st-st-stuck in your head, and I walked through the doors of my first Title One School with a degree in education from the University of Central Florida fresh-off-the-press. Here’s my "Big Girl Job" picture on my badge:
I spent the next 6 years learning how to empower, encourage, connect with, teach, and make a difference in the lives of eager and challenging students, many who came from homes with very few educational resources.
I found my niche in creating a positive and interactive learning environment. When I started referring to my students as "scholars," magic happened. I began implementing Whole Brain Learning techniques and music into my daily instruction, and the energy in my classroom was electric. So electric, in fact, that my principal would bring visitors into my classroom on a weekly basis.
In 2013, I stepped out of the classroom and into a math coach position. Along with improving my curriculum design skills, I was able to model lessons for teachers, be a resource for parents, and continue to connect with the students on a relation level. I saw a need for a comprehensive resource for parents, students, and teachers to feel confident in mastering the math standards for the FSA (Florida Standards Assessment). And viola! How To Pass The Math FSA was born. The mission of How To Pass The Math FSA is to equip teachers and parents with creative and meaningful resources to engage and empower students and build mathematical confidence of concepts and procedures.
How To Pass The Math FSA is not just a guide on how to pass a test. It is a unique resource that combines thoroughly researched standards and curriculum with my fun, kid-friendly, relatable, and quirky personality that pulls students in and gets them excited to learn and master grade-level math standards.
I don't know what the future holds for me, but I do know that I am passionate about mathematics education. In fact, I'm dedicating my life to empowering students and teachers with the high-quality and high-energy resources to produce high-performing learners.
